Data corruption is the damage of info due to various hardware or software failures. The moment a file gets damaged, it will no longer work correctly, so an application will not start or will give errors, a text file shall be partially or completely unreadable, an archive will be impossible to open and then unpack, etc. Silent data corruption is the process of info getting harmed without any acknowledgement by the system or an admin, that makes it a serious problem for web hosting servers as fails are much more likely to happen on bigger hard disk drives where significant volumes of info are placed. If a drive is part of a RAID and the info on it is copied on other drives for redundancy, it is likely that the damaged file will be treated as a standard one and it'll be copied on all of the drives, making the damage permanent. Lots of the file systems that operate on web servers nowadays often cannot discover corrupted files right away or they need time-consuming system checks during which the server isn't working.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Shared Hosting

If you host your Internet sites in a shared hosting account from our company, you will not have to worry about any of your data ever getting corrupted. We can ensure that as our cloud hosting platform employs the cutting-edge ZFS file system. The aforementioned is the only file system which uses checksums, or unique digital fingerprints, for each and every file. Any kind of information that you upload will be kept in a RAID i.e. simultaneously on many SSDs. All file systems synchronize the files between the separate drives using this type of a setup, but there is no real guarantee that a file won't get corrupted. This could occur throughout the writing process on any drive and after that a damaged copy may be copied on the other drives. What makes the difference on our platform is the fact that ZFS compares the checksums of all files on all the drives live and if a corrupted file is discovered, it's replaced with a good copy with the correct checksum from some other drive. That way, your info will continue to be undamaged no matter what, even if an entire drive fails.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you go for one of our semi-dedicated server packages, you will not have to be concerned about silent data corruption since we use ZFS - a high level file system which checks all of the files in real time. Each time you upload a file to your hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. That file will be synchronized between a couple of SSD drives for redundancy, so if a drive fails, the other ones will take control. ZFS compares the checksum of all the copies on the different drives and if it detects a corrupted copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from another drive. This happens instantly, so there will be no danger for any part of your content at any moment. By comparison, other file systems execute checks only after a system failure, but since they do not use anything similar to the checksums that ZFS uses, they cannot detect silently corrupted files, so a corrupted copy may be replicated on the other drives as well and you can lose important data. Because this is not the case with ZFS, we are able to warrant the integrity of each and every file you upload no matter what.
